India an important player in the region, can help stop the war: Iran's ambassador

Iran’s Ambassador to India, Iraj Elahi, has called on India to step in as a crucial mediator amid escalating tensions with Israel. Following a significant missile attack on Israeli territory, Elahi warned of further retaliation if Israel continues to target Iran’s national assets and interests. He expressed optimism that India, given its strong diplomatic ties with both nations, could play a pivotal role in de-escalating the conflict.

In his remarks, Elahi highlighted India's unique position, noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that "this is not an era for war" aligns with Iran's desire for a peaceful resolution. He urged India to leverage its influence to convince Israel to halt its military actions in West Asia, particularly in Gaza and southern Lebanon, where Iran has vested interests.

The recent missile attack, characterized by Elahi as a "retaliatory operation," marked a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict sparked by the war between Israel and Hamas. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu downplayed the missile strike as a "failed attempt," attributing the interception of most missiles to Israel’s robust Iron Dome defense system. He warned that Iran would "pay the price" for its actions.

The situation has garnered international scrutiny, with the United States expressing unwavering support for Israel. President Joe Biden condemned the missile attack and ordered military assistance for Israel. However, Elahi criticized US involvement, arguing that it exacerbates regional instability. He urged the US to reconsider its support for Israel, suggesting that a shift in American policy could facilitate a peaceful resolution.
